Young has demonstrated that he is able to set aside party politics and rule based on the law, not his personal views. This is likely due to his vast experience as a lawyer both in the private and public sectors, as well as having served as a law clerk for the former U.S. Greg Abbott but already seems to have been on the bench much longer. Young, the Republican incumbent, was appointed to the bench a year ago by Gov. We differ with Hays, a lawyer and hemp farmer, over her desire to legalize recreational marijuana use in Texas but applaud her interest in rural health care and the economic challenges facing farmers and ranchers. Hays, the Democratic challenger, is competent and capable of restoring faith, integrity and focus to this office.
As agricultural commissioner, he has been combative, partisan and at times embarrassing. In cowboy hat and jeans, Republican Sid Miller looks the part of a Texas rancher. Warford is not a far-left activist but a serious candidate who cares about the health of the oil and gas industry as a part of Texas’ diverse energy portfolio. Warford has spent the bulk of his career in the private sector and worked on energy policy as a business consultant. Voters should reject that and choose Warford, his Democratic opponent. The Texas Railroad Commission’s ethically challenged chairman, Republican Wayne Christian, is running for reelection on a platform of business as usual. But she is running against a Republican incumbent who has abused the office and led it into dysfunction and who faces credible allegations of personal and professional corruption, including an unresolved indictment and an ongoing federal investigation. Garza is a deeply progressive candidate who has embraced far left positions on issues from abortion to border enforcement.
There is little to recommend Garza, a Democrat, for attorney general except that she is not Ken Paxton. He’s an accountant and auditor who has spent time studying the issues. While he emphasizes property tax reform, investing in public education and fixing the state’s electric grid, Collier does more than parrot campaign talking points. Collier can talk policy ideas in detail, but he’s not a doctrinaire. Collier, a Democrat, is an appealing alternative to GOP incumbent Dan Patrick, whose abrasive style of politics is focused on winning culture wars rather than on solving everyday problems.
